Thank you Wayne's

Like most Wayne's has been a big part of my past. My Brother (who passed away from cancer at the age of 25) would always run to Wayne's for a Cherry Vanilla Pina colada Dr. Pepper. Wayne's has always been a staple in my family. I am recently delivering 2 sissy burgers to my sister in Tennessee who is pregnant and craving them... Opps I guess that is because every day when I was carrying my own daughter I would take her and her friend with me to eat there Wayne's I'm sure you supplied many moms who was with child but all the way to Tennessee wow... I have a friend in WA state that hasn't been in Lawton for years and the main thing he remembers is Wayne's... Thank you for being a part of mine and several families' happy memories!!!!!!

My history at Wayne's Drive Inn

My mother, Sue Gilbert, worked at Wayne's Drive Inn as far back as I can remember, and I have always felt like a part of the family. I also started working there when I was 16 years old, and I never regreted a moment of it. Wayne's Drive Inn is more than just another "fast food drive inn" it's THE NUMBER ONE DRIVE INN in Lawton, Oklahoma, and always will be thanks to, of course Wayne himself, Bobby and Chuck. Thank you for making such a huge impact on a lot of peoples lives.

Memories of Wayne's

19 years ago I met the cutest guy while "Cruisin" Waynes. We began dating and on almost every date we ended up at Wayne's where we ordered Cherry Dr. Pepper's. Now after 15 years of marriage we still go to Wayne's.
Thanks for being a fun place for kids and adults alike.

On the way home

Being born and raised in Lawton, Wayne's has always been a part a large part of my life. Memories go back to my High School cruising days. My friends and I spent many hours at Wayne's sitting, talking and cruising the strip. Wayne's has always been the place to be an to see your friends. Where else can you go to get the perfect meal, medium cherry coke & an order of steak fingers.
Raising two daughters has been a great joy. One thing my wife & I have thought them is that Wayne's is always "on the way home". No mater where you are, Wayne's is "on the way home". Both are out of the state now but when they are home Wayne's is the first place they go when they get in town before they come home. Both will tell you that nobody makes a vanilla diet coke, hamburger or a chocolate malt like Wayne's.
Being a big Wayne's fans my wife & I own several articles of clothing with the Wayne's logo.. On several occasions I have been in some other city wearing my Wayne's hat or my wife wearing her Wayne's sweat shirt and someone has made a comment about how they were in the army and what a great place Wayne's Drive-inn is, and what great food they have. This has happened in Minnesota, Arkansas and Las Vegas. On of them said Wayne's was always "on the way home".
Thanks for being there when we need our Wayne's Fix.
Sincerely
The Jim Cothren Family

A Letter to Wayne's Drive Inn

Hello, my name is Megan and I am in the 6th grade. We are learning to write business letters and I decided to write to you. Our P.E. teacher goes to your drive inn at least twice a week to get lunch for our teachers. Also, my dad comes to get me from school for lunch, and I always choose Waynes Drive Inn. You would know me if you saw me, we always come in a GMC truck. Your service is the best ever!
Yours truly, Megan

Dragging Wayne's

In the mid 50's, we would "drag" or drive through Wayne's many times during the night to see where our friends were, what was going on, the latest things happening, gossip, etc. We would stop and park at Wayne's for food and conversation with others for an hour or two and then leave. If you didn't have a date, you might be back "dragging" through Wayne's a few more times before they closed at night. If you were looking for a certain friend, you could sit at Wayne's and within an hour or so, that friend would come by. It was the place to be!
There were two other spots, Charlie's and A & W Rootbeer, but, Wayne's was number one.
The old "Rag Mop Drive In" didn't quite make it like Wayne's.
Lots of stories to tell about Wayne's and "The Thing" grocery next door. Seems as though one night one teenage boy thought it would be a good idea to liven up Wayne's a little more. So he drove his car across the street, set up a "roman candle" (fireworks) and aimed it at Wayne's. The fireballs shot out, across the street and directly into the teenager groups standing by or sitting in their cars. Great idea, right? However, some of the fireballs landed in the canvas awning and it caught fire. Back then, it was just kids havin fun....today, the kids would be arrested and put in jail until their parents came for them. Even the high school principal, Hugh Bish, would go to Wayne's with his family.

Visiting Every Chance I Get

My family started going to Wayne's when it first opened. From 1954, my first year of high school, Wayne's was a daily part of my life until I went away to college in 1957-58. Then, in 58-59 when I was attending Cameron Junior College, it was a daily must to go by Wayne's. I went away for another semester in the fall of 59. I returned to Lawton and opened a photography business in March, 1960 and then left Lawton in December, 1961, moving to California. Wayne's has always been on the top of my list to go to when I come back to Lawton. I have told friends in California about Wayne's for the past 40 years. I proudly wear a faded Wayne's T-shirt and a Wayne's baseball cap. I also received a gift of a Wayne's baseball T-shirt two years ago from long time Lawton friends. You can count on my business when I am back in Lawton this summer for the class reunion, presuming they have it this year.
My graduating class was 1957.

Nothing else will do

I moved to Lawton in the fall of 1985. The day we moved in my Mom took my brothers and I to Waynes for a cheeseburger. My Mom do not have much money.
So we only had Waynes when we had a little bit of money. We moved to Lawton because my Dad went to Korea and because all my Mom's family lives there. My Mom and her family have lived in Lawton since 1950. Waynes was one of her favorite place to go. I traced my Mom's foot steps. We went to the same schools. We went to Whittier Elementary, Tomlinson Junior High, and to Lawton High School. In high school I work at Taco-Bell and I ate at Waynes almost every day on my break because it was right across the street. I loved it. When graduated in 1996 I moved to Phoenix, AZ. In the fall of 1998 my husband and I found out we where going to have a baby (my husband is also from Lawton). Well, in my first trimester all I wanted was Waynes. My husband and I looked all over Phoenix for a place like yours and we could not find one as good as yours. So we saved up some money it go to Lawton so I could have a Waynes cheeseburger and when we got to Lawton it was the first thing I eat. I had Waynes at lest once of not twice a day when we where there and I made my husband stop as we where driving out of town so I could take some with me back to Phoenix. Well, we moved to Dallas, TX. In 1999 and in 2000 we found out we where having another baby.
My husband thought to was funny when I told him I wanted Wayne's to eat again and I told him that at lest we do not have to drive 18 hours to get there this time it is only 3 hour now. My husband just could not stop. He thought that it is so funny that I just had to have a Wayne's cheeseburger no other cheeseburger would do. Every time we go home to see my family. We take our new family to Wayne's. To have a cheeseburger. Wayne's have been in my family for three generation now and I hope that I can take my grand kids someday.
Thank you for all the great memories.
Sincerely, Bette
